Activity guidelines
Given that you had a good night’s sleep, what are the priorities for your actions throughout the day? Meaning, when you are planning your day, or you have some free time — in what order would you plan or do activities, so that at the end of the day you feel satisfied with your day?
Rephrased again: Whenever you have a choice between two or more activities, do you have a guideline which tells you what to prefer? For example, if you notice you have an unplanned hour in front of you and your options are going for a run or watch a movie, what would you do? Would you decide on a whim or do you have a guideline that helps you to make the decision?
One guideline could be: do something healthy before you do something entertaining. So if you had some exercise in your day already, you would vote for the movie, but if you didn’t the guideline would urge you to go for the run.
Here are two of my guidelines:
- Activities that are beneficial for health come first
- Activities that are creative (involve doing or producing) come before activities that are consuming.
That means watching a YouTube video on mobility is better than watching one on popular mathematics, and following along with the exercise is better still.
You could als make a list of activities where you rank them into several tiers. The guideline is then to prefer activities from higher ranks over ones from lower ranks.
As an example:
- Running, meditating, breath work, cooking, baking
- Journaling, writing, creating, diy, reflective reading
- Pure pleasure reading, watching movies,
- Browsing feeds, shorts etc.
And remember, these are not rules, but guidelines and they are yours to make.
